| European Web Hosting Industry News October 13, 2011 -- Web host SoftLayer announced on Thursday that it has selected Amsterdam for its European headquarters and first data center. According to the press release, SoftLayer is investing $75 million initially in Holland and its European operations, which includes new network PoPs in London and Frankfurt as well. October 12, 2011 -- Dell announced on Wednesday it has opened a new 5,000 square foot data center in Slough, United Kingdom, located just 22 miles west of London, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge. The new data center will support Dell's IT outsourcing and cloud computing services across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. October 6, 2011 -- German email security provider eleven announced on Thursday that it will launch its my.eleven web interface at the it-sa 2011 conference next week. According to the press release, my.eleven is a new user interface that includes all eleven managed services. A year ago, Dataspace announced that it had a $150 million loan to build or convert industrial sites in Moscow into data centers. October 4, 2011 -- Web hosting provider ServInt announced on Tuesday that it is the exclusive North American launch partner for Hivext Technologies' cloud-based Java development platform, Jelastic. According to the press release, ServInt is offering a limited-time, free beta test of the Jelastic PaaS platform in conjunction with this announcement. October 4, 2011 -- UK web hosting provider Lumison announced on Tuesday that it has acquired web hosting and colocation firm DediPower Managed Hosting. The acquisition closed on Tuesday, but the terms of the acquisition have no been disclosed. According to the press release, the project, dubbed Optimis, is a three-year, $14 million project that aims to develop a set of tools to improve interactions and transactions in cloud computing. September 30, 2011 -- Technology giant Google announced on Friday it will build a new green data center in Dublin, Ireland, following its purchase of 11 acres of land and an existing building on Profile Park. The company said it will invest about $101 million to complete the new data center, which will expand on its existing Dublin data center space that is leased from a third party. September 29, 2011 -- UK web hosting provider Adapt announced on Thursday that growth investor Lyceum Capital has backed the company with a $47 million investment. London-based Adapt provides enterprise-class cloud hosting, infrastructure management, network and data center services to a wide range of mid-market clients that operate IT applications.
